Done way back December of 1989, the same year Ilo-ilo, Philippines, was struck by a devastating typhoon that left hundreds homeless. Yet despite of it, the government wasn't that quick to respond to the plight of the poor. Notice the familiar cloak of Santa that served as their shelter against the storm, but with the presence of the nozzle of an Uzi and a driftwood that formed a sickle, turned out to be that of the grim reaper instead for them.
Presented this to the well-known magazine, The Philippine Free Press as a cover or for a feature, but was denied.
Done in watercolor on illustration board.

Yes, I did. Not only because I want to submit a work to a publication, but I was so affected when I read the news, and followed it anticipating that the government would take more focus on the plight of the affected. But when there wasn't, that drove me to express my sympathy (and even anger) through my brush, yet denied publication. Thank you for your appreciation...you're a deeper soul.
